Pretty awesome...
I have a massive collection of WAV files on my HTPC and I've been feeding them to my Denon AVR via HDMI for the past three years. I recently decided to build a "decent" sound system in my "man-cave" with a pair of KEF Q300 and an integrated amp - Marantz PM800. I was looking for a decent CD player with a USB input or networkable. I tried out various devices like the Marantz CD6004 with the USB input, but I felt it was lacking and didn't bring out the best of my speakers. I returned the CD6004 and decided different alternatives like SONOS.I came across the DacMagic Plus on accident while looking at Musical Fidelity M1DAC A. I felt the DacMagic Plus offered more features for less cash. It seemed like a better alternative than the regular DacMagic although both shared the same Wolfson DACs with balance and unbalance out. The Plus offers a few other options that you may or may not need/want.Plus vs Regular:Plus cost roughly $150 USD more. For...

Provides Excellent Sound Quality At This Price Level
Have spent the last few days using this unit and I am very satisfied. The DAC was very easy to setup and get going. I connected it to my iMac 27 inch via a USB cable. Immediately I found that it was connecting up at only USB 1.0(allowing only up to 96K)according to the Mac. I then got out the manual and found out USB 1.0 was default and a procedure had to be followed to configure for USB 2.0 to allow the Mac to send up to 192k FLAC tracks. I followed the easy steps in the manual and got it going in a couple of minutes. I was then able to play WAV and FLAC 96/24 tracks from the Mac. Sound quality was outstanding. Beautiful non fatiguing sound with a very good stereo image. Even compressed 384k AAC tracks sounded very good. My vinyl is probably going to see a lot less usage now.The only cons I can see with this unit is that for setting up some things, like the USB2 for example, you have to refer to the manual for the easy procedures since it is not intuitively...

Exceptional audio quality
Connected the device to a Mac. First is sounds nice but not spectacular. Changed the settings from the DACmagic+ from USB 1 to USB2 (look into the manual) and the game changes from good to exceptional. From that moment on the Mac uses the DM+ as an external clock and all audio generated in the Mac is being synchronized on the clock of the DM+. Furthermore the sample frequency becomes 192 Khz. 192 is high enough to do interpolation on a 44.1 K signal from audio CD's. Funny enough, part of the quality is in the Mac, because the up sampling to 192 K is a major step. The USB connection is superior to the TOSlink, because of the ability to do the external synchronization.

Product Description
Improving on a legend is never easy, but Cambridge Audio has gone back to the drawing board to create the DacMagic Plus with exciting new features, wireless device connectivity, and best of all, significantly enhanced audio performance.
We live in a world of immense musical opportunity. Computers, TVs and Blu-ray players can all deliver audio to your hi-fi system, but because they're primarily designed to perform other functions, their audio outputs lack quality. But by simply connecting them to DacMagic Plus, you can bypass their inbuilt digital to analogue converters transforming their humdrum performance into something altogether more spectacular!
DacMagic Plus works by taking a digital audio signal from your PC, digital iPod dock or TV which it analyses and upgrades using our clever ATF2 algorithm. It's totally flexible and supports digital music of all formats. DacMagic Plus even supports 24-bit data over USB so you can enjoy better than CD quality from uncompressed music stored on your PC.
And by linking our plug-and-play BT100 wireless audio receiver to DacMagic Plus, you can also stream music wirelessly from your iPhone, Android smartphone, iPad, tablet, laptop or any device that supports Bluetooth*. Best of all, if your smartphone, tablet or Apple Mac supports the high-end audio aptX CODEC, you can stream audiophile quality music from your device to DacMagic Plus.
Of course the range of music available from today's mobile devices is almost endless and as well as controlling and playing stored music, online music services like Spotify and Last FM can be shared with your hi-fi in stunning quality.
*Optional BT100 audio receiver required
